Embark on a transformative journey through Peru’s hidden gem, the Choquequirao Trek, where ancient whispers echo across rugged peaks and lush valleys. As a trusted tour operator, MUGJU invites you to step beyond the classic Inca Trail and explore a path less traveled—a route the Peruvian governmentreveres as the “sister citadel” to Machu Picchu. Over four days of hiking, we’ll traverse dramatic landscapes teeming with flora and fauna, from sun-drenched ridges to mist-kissed cloud forest, while uncovering archaeological sites that rival the grandeur of the Inca site itself.

Unlike the bustling Inca Trail tours that converge at Km 104 or the Short Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, this adventure offers solitude and raw beauty. You’ll wander through terraced ruins at Choquequirao, a part of the Inca empire’s sacred network, where history feels alive beneath your feet. Our expert tour guides will share stories of the citadel’s spiritual significance, its connection to the Sacred Valley, and how it mirrors the iconic views of Machu Picchu from afar.

We’ll ascend to 3,050 meters (10,006 feet), where crisp Andean air rewards you with panoramas of snow-capped peaks and plunging canyons. While the altitude demands respect, our carefully paced itinerary minimizes altitude sickness, letting you savor every moment. You’ll cross roaring rivers, spot rare orchids, and sleep under star-strewn skies—a rhythm that blends challenge with serenity. MUGJU’s Four-Day Choquequirao Trek isn’t just a hike; it’s a pilgrimage to the soul of the Andes. Whether you seek solitude, history, or a deeper bond with nature, we’ll craft an experience that lingers long after your boots leave the trail. Ready to trade crowded paths for untamed wonder? Let’s journey where the Incas once roamed—and where adventure still feels sacred.

Day 1: Cusco – Ollantaytambo – Km 104 – Wiñay Wayna – Sungate – Aguas Calientes

We’ll greet you at dawn in Cusco, whisking you through the Sacred Valley’s golden plains toward Ollantaytambo. Here, our adventure truly begins as we board a panoramic train ride to Km 104 (2,100 meters/6,890 feet)—a scenic 1.5-hour journey tracing the Urubamba River’s serpentine path. Upon arrival, we’ll validate your Short Inca Trail permit with Peruvian government officials, ensuring seamless access to this storied route.

Crossing a rustic bridge, we’ll ascend gently to Chachabamba, an Inca site shrouded in mystery at 2,150 meters (7,053 feet). Your tour guide will reveal how priests once performed water rituals here, offering coca leaves to Inti (Sun God) and Apus (mountain spirits) amid a tapestry of flora and fauna. Feel the past come alive as we walk paths lined with orchids and ancient stones.

The trail then climbs through cloud forest to Wiñay Wayna (2,650 meters/8,694 feet), a terraced marvel whose Quechua name, “Forever Young,” mirrors its timeless beauty. Explore ceremonial baths and the Temple of the Seven Windows, where Incas honored the rainbow’s divinity. After a nourishing lunch at a mountain-side campsite, we’ll trek onward to Intipunku (Sun Gate).

Cresting the final ridge at 2,720 meters (8,920 feet), we’ll unveil your first view of Machu Picchu—the citadel sprawled beneath Huayna Picchu’s iconic peak. This exclusive vantage, reserved for Inca Trail treks, lets you savor the moment like early explorers.

Descending to Aguas Calientes, we’ll settle into your hotel, where steaming thermal baths and artisan markets invite you to unwind.

As stars blanket the Andes, rest knowing tomorrow’s guided tour of Machu Picchu awaits—a grand finale to your journey through archaeological sites and Inca legacy.

Day 2: Machu Picchu – Cusco

At dawn, we’ll board a shuttle winding up to Machu Picchu, where your passport and entry tickets will be verified once more. Stepping into the citadel at sunrise, you’ll watch golden light cascade over its ancient stones—a moment that forever etches the views of Machu Picchu into memory. Your tour guide will recount tales of Inca ingenuity as we explore iconic archaeological sites, from the sunlit Main Plaza to terraced fields carved into the mountainside.

After the guided tour, those who’ve secured permits for Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain will ascend these soaring peaks, tracing paths the Incas once revered. Once you’ve soaked in the majesty of the citadel, we’ll return to Aguas Calientes by bus. Savor free time to stroll artisan markets or enjoy a leisurely lunch surrounded by Sacred Valley charm.

In the afternoon, we’ll journey by train through the lush Urubamba Valley to Ollantaytambo, where our team will greet you. From there, a private transfer whisks you back to Cusco, capping your Inca Trail tour with seamless comfort. As you reflect on days spent traversing cloud forests, sacred ruins, and the Short Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, you’ll carry more than memories—you’ll hold a deeper connection to the spirit of the Andes.
